Down I Go
A downloadable solo hack
“Down I Go” is a set of solo rules for use with Down We Go along with a framework for adapting a random dungeon for a GM into a solo roguelike dungeon using a standard deck of cards. I can only help you emulate the sense of danger and exploration of a dungeon. I cannot help you simulate the epic weirdness that results from multiple creative minds repeatedly smashing into each other during a session. Nor can I help you recreate the shenanigans players will get up to when they try to derail a GM’s plans. All that is up to you.
“Down to the Outpost, Alone” is a solo quick start which adapts my dungeon The Outpost into a solo journaling style RPG. This game guides you to the dungeon and holds your hand a bit with narrative prompts as you explore one of the four outposts. My intention is not task you with converting an adventure into a set of narrative prompts, but to show you how the randomization using a deck of cards can lead to these sorts of questions and help provide and emergent narrative. To play this you will need a copy of Down We Go, Down I Go, a set of polyhedral dice, a standard deck of playing cards, and your favorite journaling tools.
